About Us

Atherton Birds of Prey is a family run business owned and operated by Mark Culleton and Olivia Knapman.

Mark has been in the zoo/tourism industry for 20 years and has worked with many species, including dolphins, sea lions, crocodiles and birds from all over the world. Mark is a professional member of the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators (IAATE).

Following years of presenting shows in England and Spain, where he acquired extensive animal training experience, he returned to Australia in 1997.

He then developed shows for three zoos (including the first free-flight bird show in Queensland). In 2005, he created his own unique presentation: Atherton Birds of Prey Show.

Strong interest from school groups then prompted Mark to take the show on the road. He now provides mobile shows across the region for any occasion.

Olivia officially joined the growing business in 2008. She is a trained zoologist and has a Bachelor of Applied Science with Honours (Environmental Studies). Her experience includes wildlife keeping and presentation, customer service, project administration, and staff management.

Atherton Birds of Prey aims to provide entertaining and educational wildlife experiences. We hope to inspire a commitment to conservation by providing opportunities for people to connect with some of Australia's native animals.

Bonding through pictures and visits to zoos is a start but it's simply not the same as that powerful emotional buzz that comes from touching, hearing, smelling and feeling the real thing.
